Put the \u2018why\u2019 on the walls<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s important for leaders to make people aware of what is going on and why, and arguably, more importantly, the consequences of not changing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/seedpeopleconsulting.com.au\/be-an-effective-leader\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Leading a team<\/a> to see the need for change is based on understanding the \u2018why\u2019 behind the change. Suss out the desire for change<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>What\u2019s the current level of desire for change in your team?<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s important to be aware that individuals will all sit at different stages and have varying emotions through the change curve.<\/p>\n<p>You don\u2019t have the ability to read minds (how rude, we know!). So instead, you need to encourage open discussions throughout the change process.<\/p>\n<p>Incite open dialogue and create a safe space for your team members to voice their concerns, questions, and ideas. Also, actively listen to their feedback and address concerns.<\/p>\n<p>The power of a question like \u2018How are you feeling about the change?\u2019 at a water cooler or over a coffee can give you valuable insights into your team.<\/p>\n<p>Together these actions will help you scope out the desire (or lack of) for change. Transparency will also help build trust and make people feel more comfortable with the change process.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>3. Spark excitement through vision<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Teams resist organisational change for many reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fear of the unknown<\/li>\n<li>Loss of comfort or familiarity<\/li>\n<li>Perceived threat to status<\/li>\n<li>Lack of understanding\/involvement<\/li>\n<li>Previous negative experiences<\/li>\n<li>Traditional organisational culture<\/li>\n<li>Loss of skills or expertise<\/li>\n<li>Lack of trust in leadership<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These concerns can make change difficult, but it\u2019s always possible.<\/p>\n<p>A vital step to success is sharing a clear and inspiring vision of the future. This can spark excitement, reduce concerns, and create a desire for change.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>4. Set your team up for success<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Change often demands the acquisition of new knowledge or skills.<\/p>\n<p>This could be due to implementing new systems, technologies or business processes or a shift in evolving job requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Because of this, another effective change management strategy is providing your team with the information and abilities they need is crucial to achieving successful change.<\/p>\n<p>This could include skills assessment, training and\/or development opportunities, mentoring and coaching, and open conversations about how change may affect the direct team member or overall organisation.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>5. Lead by example <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><u>\u00a0<\/u>As a leader, your actions speak louder than words.<\/p>\n<p>Because of this, you must embrace change and demonstrate your commitment to it.<\/p>\n<p>Be a role model by showcasing the behaviours, mindset, and actions you expect from others. When your team sees your dedication and enthusiasm for change, it can motivate them to follow suit.<\/p>\n<p>Bonus tip: Managing change can be challenging, and there\u2019s often a natural inclination to return to familiar routines and processes.
